Flick Agrees to De Jong’s Departure from Barcelona on One Condition
An influential Spanish newspaper has reported that the Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong is no longer deemed essential to the Catalan team as he once was.
The same source revealed that German coach Hansi Flick is open to the idea of the Dutch star leaving, but with a single stipulation: Barcelona must strengthen their squad with a physically strong midfielder.
De Jong initially joined the Catalan club from Ajax Amsterdam during the summer of 2019 for a fee of 86 million euros.
Notably, the Dutch player has participated in 13 matches for Barcelona across all competitions this season, where he scored a goal and provided an assist.
